Advocacy

For the past six years, I've dedicated myself to a wide variety of public policy and community service projects. I started at 14 by lobbying for immigrant rights with Congressional staff, continuing through high school — including organizing the DMV area anti-gun violence walkouts of 2018/2019, alongside original March For Our Lives leaders — to today.

In the process, I've learned to plan and host events with ease, facilitate dialogue with compassion, organize in the field, and lobby on behalf of marginalized communities.

Community Service Chair (2021-2023)

Curriculum Committee Member (2022-2023)

First Year Class Board Member (2020-2021)

As Chair of the Community Service Committee, I was tasked with managing our service projects and fundraisers; however, I often went beyond the scope of my role to assist the Class Boards and Curriculum Committee, leaning on my prior experience as an educator and organizer. My goals were twofold: empower students in their own advocacy and career, and give back to the city via volunteering and fundraising.

During my tenure, I:

  • Raised over $3000 for various nonprofits;

  • Offered opportunities for students to get involved in Service via the first-ever Service Social, which included a nonprofit fair and panel with NYU administrators, including Dean Kalb;

  • Promoted shopping sustainably with the now-annual Spring Cleaning Sale, which was also the first event ever hosted at NYU's Bobst Library Mamdouha Gallery;

  • Packaged sandwiches and care kits for people in need;

  • Designed merchandise for NYU's Welcome Week CAS Kickoff, and for our Merch Sale raising funds for Puerto Rico's Comedores Sociales (Community Kitchens);

  • Raised awareness on Women's History Month and following Hurricane Fiona;

  • Created advertisements and assisted in logistics for the 2021 and 2022 Student-Faculty banquets, in aid of the Curriculum Chair;

  • Cohosted CAS After Hours with the Curriculum Committee, in which we facilitated smaller, personal chats between students and distinguished professors;

  • Spoke up for students' needs via our Town Halls with CAS Advising, CAS Dean Wendy Suzuki, and Dean of Academic Affairs Armanda Lewis;

  • Advised the direction of CAS initiatives and provided input into University affairs as a member of the CASSC Executive Board;

  • Hosted networking and alumni panels for the Class of 2024 and Class of 2026.

NYU Teaches

Director

Borne out of a Community Service committee meeting, NYU Teaches was a one-year initiative I founded to provide virtual tutoring assistance to students at a majority-minority Manhattan middle school. I selected and trained 30 tutors, and they met with their assigned students weekly via Google Meet.

Starting it from scratch required: communicating across departments within the University and our partner school; conducting outreach to find tutors, using Instagram Business, Photoshop, Weebly/Wix, and Canva Pro; and designing program policies in accordance with existing regulations and practices.

Amnesty International

Youth Strategist for the Northeast Region

Having founded an Amnesty International chapter in high school, I transitioned to serve as a strategist via the New York leadership team during my first year of college. In the role, I formed a working group on death penalty abolition efforts, and created a digital advertising and events strategy for a nationwide member-led week of action for abolition.

During my time with AIUSA, I also consistently trained members to and advocated for human rights protections in Congressional offices, among other policies.

As president of my local chapter, I: Built campaigns resulting in over 100 petition signatures in support of Uyghur Muslims in China, over 70 letters for the Write For Rights campaign, and over $300 to donate menstrual hygiene products to incarcerated people. I also trained chapter members for meetings with Congressional staff to advocate for the C.R.O.W.N. Act, Savanna’s Act, and the Break the Cycle of Violence Act.
