"For a second semester in a row, Adiba has been a great contributor to the BTS/BAS teams, especially in the creative and social media engagement space. Adiba takes direction very well, as demonstrated by her quick pivot of BTS/BAS newsletter styles after just one conversation. She also works very fast in terms of project turnaround and she communicates how far along in the process she is very well. I have seen her interact very well with the Scholars in the new space, and it’s great to have her friendly presence at the front desk when Scholars enter the office."

Democracy Summer is a national hybrid fellowship program with over 60 partner Congressional campaigns; cohosted by Congressman Jamie Raskin and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the program seeks to teach students the basics of field organizing, offer insight into social justice practice and history, and get out the vote.

In this position, I had two main responsibilities: designing and executing a curriculum for the political education of fellows, and overseeing liaisons between the program and our partners and affiliates.

For the first, I trained our program coordinators to direct dialogues, guest speakers, phonebanks, and other educational activities to train and empower over 600 fellows as budding organizers and Democratic Party volunteers over the course of the six-week program. My team and I, under the supervision of National Director Madeline Kracov, also managed seminars with esteemed guest speakers; we navigated our remote meetings with ease.

For the second, Maddie and I tracked communications with over 60 partners/affiliates, supervised junior staff in their meetings and emails with Congressional campaign staff, and advised next steps to maintain high-quality programming across the board. I did so drawing upon my own experience as a former DS Program Coordinator, for which I remotely coordinated with 16 Congressional campaigns to reach GOTV goals and improve in-person engagement throughout the Western U.S., including to host phone banks resulting in over 800 calls made to Nevada voters.

I've been with Democracy Summer for four summers: as a 2019 fellow, as a group leader in 2021, as a 2022 program coordinator, and as program manager.

In this role, I produced all communications and design for both programs, via Instagram and Mailchimp; in the process, I successfully raised our read rate on our newsletters from 75.8% to 94.4%, and created distinct branding for University-wide promotion.

I also assisted in planning and hosting bonding activities and alumni mixers, among other events. In the process, I've been able to provide insight into Scholars' needs and offer feedback to upper-level administrators.

TUTOR

America Reads/America Counts

New York, NY

America Reads/America Counts is a federal work study-based tutoring program in New York City. For my tutoring assignment, I was placed in Current Events with Rick Stein at Mott Hall II; this course was a mandatory social studies class for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at a majority-minority Manhattan middle school.

In my first year, I aided the remote learning of over 100 students by emphasizing the interactive element of virtual lessons and offering assistance by instituting weekly surveys, co-teaching classes, tracking participation, and creating engaging activities.

When we returned in-person during my second year, I developed 30+ lesson plans and assisted in teaching 150+ sixth to eighth grade students in a mandated social studies course, utilizing Google Suite, Vimeo, Canva and other tools to build interactive and accessible lessons.
